2004-2005 Welcome!

Colony “A” Beaver News

Welcome to one and all!
The Beaver “year” 2004 – 2005 begins TONIGHT and we are glad that you could join us!   When special things happen in/around our schedule you can expect a special note like this to come home---please keep an eye out for them.

This year’s theme is a bit different:  DISCOVERING SCOUTING.  In many cases the Beaver program is designed to simply get the kids playing and working together in a group environment.  However, the Leader team thought it might be fun/exciting for the Beavers (especially returning Beavers) to experience how Scouting works for older kids like Cubs and Scouts.  We will still be featuring some familiar topics like The Outdoors, Crafts & Hobbies, Physical Fitness, Sports & Recreation and Helping Others (Family, Friends and Community).  But, you will note some new “twists” in how we present things to the Beavers and some new programs of reward & accomplishment (that those of you with Cubs/Scouts will recognize immediately).  We sincerely hope that you and your Beaver will enjoy the program this year.

BEAVER DETAILS

Meeting Time:  6:30 PM to 7:30 PM (please try to drop off no sooner than 6:20)

Location:  Emily Carr Middle School (unless otherwise specified by Leaders)

Uniform:  Beaver HAT* and Beaver VEST* (all else will be provided)

*(These can be purchased from the SCOUT SHOP located on Baseline Road between Merivale and Clyde---see a Leader if you need any further guidance)

Weekly Dues:  $1 per Beaver (Goes into our “Beaver Feed” Can DURING Opening.  This helps to pay any additional fees, expenses during the Beaver year).

Schedule:  Attached to help you plan and stay in touch.  Post on the fridge/bulletin board at home.  If we are scheduled to be outside…please place your Beaver in appropriate clothes (coats, rubber boots, rain hat, toque, mitts, etc.) to comfortably face the weather.

Beavers must also always wear a comfortable pair of non-marking running shoes for ALL indoor meetings (for personal safety).

Physical Fitness Certificate: Attached to be filled out and returned to NEXT meeting.  Helps to keep your Beaver safe while giving the Leader team important Emergency Info.

Beaver Parents:  Are always welcome to stay and observe meetings.  We will have a few meetings during the year where a parent is required to stay (to assist the Beaver with something a bit more complex) as well as parents being welcome on our outings/trips to assist in “escorting” the kids safely.  Hope you can attend and become part of the fun.  Please feel free to speak with any Leader at any time should you have any questions, concerns or comments.

SOME WORDS FOR BEAVERS TO REMEMBER & PRACTICE:
