Welcome to the list of news and events for the 1st Blackburn Scout Group. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions, suggestions or concerns.
Saying Thanks to a dedicated Scouter is easier than you might think...
JOTT (Jamboree On The Trail) is an annual day for the World Scout Movement to hike together. All Scouts, whatever their age and wherever they may be in the world, are invited to participate in whatever way they can. Cubs and younger Scouting sections could visit a local nature trail as part of a weekend camp. A Scout Troop might check out a hiking trail while working on badge requirements. A Rover Crew might make a Service Project out of restoring or maintaining a hiking trail. In their own way, everyone will be hiking the same direction: towards a better future through Scouting.
We'll be holding our event on Sat May 11 starting at 10:00 on the Prescott Russell trail (meet at P 20 lot on Anderson Road). Please bring a water bottle, hat, sunscreen and a GPS if you have one and are interested in some geocaching. For any questions, email your section leader!
Our CJ patrol of 6 scouts and 2 leaders are in full force fundraising mode and are undertaking our first ever COMMUNITY ELECTRONICS RECYCLING DRIVE.
When: Monday May 13, 2013.
Time: 6:15-8:15 pm.
Where: Emily Carr Middle School.
What: Electronics-TVs, computer monitors, vcrs, DVD players, cell phones, stereos and lots more, please see link below for all accepted electronics
This year the hope is to raise funds by collecting and recycling electronics that are otherwise collecting dust for the patrol attending CJ'13, to help off-set some of the registration costs associated with this event.
The event is meant to be a convenient drop off of electronics at the same time as one takes or picks up their child(ren) to their Scout activity and a central location for other non-scouting members of the community to also participate.
What a great way for the First Blackburn Scouts to show their commitment to environmental stewardship in a community setting! Let's recycle together and reduce our environmental footprint-please spread the word!
If you'd like to be involved in this drive or have any questions please contact a leader.
It's time once again for our annual spring fundraiser and environmental awareness project, ScouTrees! Youth should already have their order form (if not, see a leader to pick on up) and can begin collecting donations. Most of the proceeds stay with our group, with some going to support an excellent cause - the Canadian Scout Brotherhood Fund. Youth can then come on out on May 4th from 10:00 - 12:00 (Russell and Hall road site
, as with the last couple of years) to help improve our environment by planting saplings.
Event: Whitetail Beaver and Cub sleepover
Where: Blackburn Community Centre
Drop off: Saturday Apr 13 after 6:30pm (supper should be eaten at home)
Pick up: Sunday Apr 14 at 9:00am
We will be playing games, doing activities and watching movies and of course, sleep. Breakfast will be provided on Sunday morning. This is a great linking activity with those Beavers Scouts about to move up to Cub Scouts.
Please reply to firstname.lastname@example.org with the name of your Beaver or Cub attending and any food allergies.
We hope to see you there,
Bagheera (Joanne Ingram)
Starting this Monday, Feb 25, and running until Mar 25 we'll be running a fundraiser in partnership with local Blackburn gourmet coffee roaster Firehaus coffee. Orders will be collect on Mar 25, and will be distributed within the next two weeks (depending on the order volume). Please ensure payment is collected up front, to ensure smooth order placement and delivery. Cheques should be made to the 1st Blackburn Scout Group. Please note that, although it isn't listed on the order sheet, decaf is available as an option at the same prices.
Tonight's meeting is going to be held at the Coyote Rock Gym (http://www.coyoterockgym.ca/contactus.aspx) at 1737B St Laurent Boulevard for indoor rock climbing. Cost for this event is $20, and Scouts should come wearing indoor shoes and active wear (shorts, T-Shirts), and bringing their own water bottle. The meeting will run from 6 PM to tentatively 8 PM (pickup time will be confirmed when your Scout is dropped off).
Tonight's (Jan 21) Scout Troop meeting will be held at our storage facility, as we discuss the menu prep and equipment required for winter camping.
Due to the uncertain weather, the Troop meeting tonight at Emily Carr has been cancelled. Happy Holidays to everyone, and we'll see you in the New Year!
