Scouts Canada is beginning a comprehensive program review for all of its sections, and are anxious to hear from the youth themselves to help structure the opportunities that we offer. Below is a message from our Chief Commissioner Steve Kent outlining how all Scouting members can participate in shaping our program offerings going forward:
************************************ Calling all youth: Tell us what you think - Program Review survey
A comprehensive review of our five core Programs (Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts, Scouts, Venturer Scouts, Rover Scouts) is underway. The "Scouts Canada Program Review Youth Survey 2012" seeks youth input on what matters most about their programs. We encourage all youth to take part! As a parent or volunteer, please help to ensure that our youth make their voices heard. Parents may need to assist younger members with some questions. The results from this survey will be used to ensure that our programs meet the needs of today's youth. (Please note that we will be seeking input from all of our volunteers in a subsequent survey.) The Youth Survey should take about 10 minutes to complete. Only one survey respondent per computer is permitted, so for households with more than one registered Scouts Canada youth, we ask that the oldest youth complete the survey. All responses will be kept strictly confidential. Thank you for helping to improve our programs by sharing your thoughts and experiences. ************************************
We would very much appreciate it if you could take the time to assist your Cub Scout in completing this survey -- after all, this is their program!

Due to the weather, and the fact that we don't have access to the gym this evening, tonight's meeting has been cancelled. |

Congratulations to all the Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts and Scouts who participated in our Food Drive at Metro on Nov 5. We raised a dozen shopping carts full of food in addition to cash, and across Voyageur Council 72 000 pounds of food and $11 000 was collected to help those in need. To all those who participated -- you should be very proud! |

The Council food drive is coming up on November 5th, and our group is staffing the Metro in Blackburn Hamlet. This is a great way to teach Beavers, Cubs and Scouts about the importance of helping their community -- see a member of your leadership team to sign up for a time slot! |

It's that time of year again! Scout Popcorn forms were handed out at this week's meeting (Oct 3)...if you missed getting one, please let a member of your leadership team know and we'll get you set up! Forms need to be returned at the Oct. 24th meeting - it's crucial they're returned on time, as the deadline for our fundraising chair to submit the group order is extremely tight. Payment must accompany your order (a single cheque is preferable), and cheques can be made payable to the 1st Blackburn Scout Group.

It was great to see old friends and new faces at our first meeting of the year. If you have any questions or concerns about the upcoming year, please don't hesitate to contact a member of your section's leadership group! As well, we're always looking for parent volunteers that can help out at meetings, or perhaps even become a leader. If you'd like to wear the red shirt, talk to a leader about signing up.
