Join us for 2013 JOTT

posted Apr 30, 2013, 6:43 AM by Ilan Shapiro   [ updated May 10, 2013, 6:54 AM ]

JOTT (Jamboree On The Trail) is an annual day for the World Scout Movement to hike together. All Scouts, whatever their age and wherever they may be in the world, are invited to participate in whatever way they can. Cubs and younger Scouting sections could visit a local nature trail as part of a weekend camp. A Scout Troop might check out a hiking trail while working on badge requirements. A Rover Crew might make a Service Project out of restoring or maintaining a hiking trail. In their own way, everyone will be hiking the same direction: towards a better future through Scouting.

We'll be holding our event on Sat May 11 starting at 10:00 on the Prescott Russell trail (meet at P 20 lot on Anderson Road). Please bring a water bottle, hat, sunscreen and a GPS if you have one and are interested in some geocaching.  For any questions, email your section leader!

COMMUNITY ELECTRONICS RECYCLING DRIVE

posted Apr 29, 2013, 4:29 AM by Jason Millar   [ updated May 10, 2013, 7:01 AM by Ilan Shapiro ]

Our CJ patrol of 6 scouts and 2 leaders are  in full force fundraising mode and are undertaking our first ever COMMUNITY ELECTRONICS RECYCLING DRIVE.

When: Monday May 13, 2013.
Time: 6:15-8:15 pm.
Where: Emily Carr Middle School.
What: Electronics-TVs, computer monitors, vcrs, DVD players, cell phones, stereos and lots more, please see link below for all accepted electronics

This year the hope is to raise funds by collecting and recycling electronics that are otherwise collecting dust for the patrol attending CJ'13, to help off-set some of the registration costs associated with this event.

The event is meant to be a convenient drop off of electronics at the same time as one takes or picks up their child(ren) to their Scout activity and a central location for other non-scouting members of the community to also participate.

What a great way for the First Blackburn Scouts to show their commitment to environmental stewardship in a community setting! Let's recycle together and reduce our environmental footprint-please spread the word!

If you'd like to be involved in this drive or have any questions please contact a leader.

Spring Is Here - So Is ScouTrees

posted Apr 17, 2013, 8:01 AM by Jason Millar   [ updated Apr 30, 2013, 7:32 AM ]

It's time once again for our annual spring fundraiser and environmental awareness project, ScouTrees!  Youth should already have their order form (if not, see a leader to pick on up) and can begin collecting donations.  Most of the proceeds stay with our group, with some going to support an excellent cause - the Canadian Scout Brotherhood Fund.  Youth can then come on out on May 4th from 10:00 - 12:00 (Russell and Hall road site, as with the last couple of years) to help improve our environment by planting saplings.
